Australia Day at Caloundra
Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast will be a great base for a blockbuster line-up of special events this Australia Day weekend (Jan 25-27).
The Sunshine Coast Turf Club's Corbould Park Racecourse hosts the Sunshine Coast Cup meeting on Sunday, January 26, that offers $450,000 in prizemoney. The day features kid-safe areas, free rides and family activities. Gates open 11am with the first race at 1.05pm. Tickets and picnic hampers available online at www.sctc.com.au
Tickets are also available for a special Hobnobbers Luncheon in the Champagne Garden overlooking the finish line.
Sunshine Coast Council’s community event at Kings Beach Amphitheatre starts on January 26 from 8am until mid-afternoon. There will be lots of live music and games for the kids to join in.
Nearby attractions include Aussie World that hosts its iconic dunny races and vintage, classic and antique car show, while Australia Zoo has a very special Australia Day program.
Chief Executive Officer of Sunshine Coast Destination Limited, Simon Ambrose, said the Australia Day holiday was the last chance for many families to take a short break before school and work commitments settled in for the year.
“The Australia Day long weekend is a wonderful time to spend some quality time with your family and enjoy the lively entertainment that is always on offer to celebrate the national holiday,” Mr Ambrose said.
